You may have heard of the
"new Bali"? Well, many will agree that it's Lombok. The two islands are only 40 minutes apart by plane yet there is a world of difference between them. Of course, I can only speak from my own experiences of when I was there, and I believe that things are changing rapidly, with more tourists descending and new five-star hotels being built. |
| The Lombok I remember is a place
where the people are as curious about you, the tourist, as you are of them. And when someone offers you help, he doesn't expect anything in return. I've stopped many times to ask for directions only to have someone volunteer to show me the way personally. |

Some of you may consider that
naive...let's just say, I've been lucky with the people I've met in Lombok. But don't just take my word for it - go and see the island and its people for yourself. Hire a jeep, drive around...talk to the people you meet...relax on the beaches...just don't expect it to be Bali and don't compare it to Bali ! |
