Singapore is a city of contrasts. I like to tell people that it's a combination of old and new. You'll find skyscrapers and plenty of modern hotels. Most visitors know of Singapore's reputation for good shopping and efficiency. That's the new Singapore.
You'll also find remnants of old Singapore dotted all over the island. Some of the old buildings have been restored. Others (thankfully) have been left as they are.
Sunday
morning is the best time to visit the Tiong Bahru
area. Listen...the sound of the birds singing will lead you to a spot where
devotees congregate to spend a leisurely morning talking shop about birds
and their musical talents.
Sometimes if you're lucky, you'll
even find a calligrapher at work
as
you wander around Chinatown.
Serangoon Road is also known as "Little India". Here you'll find
lots of small shops
selling textiles, spices, gold and some of the best Indian food in
Singapore.
